Parenting Without Pity (Jenelle and Joy on Rooted in Rights Podcast)

Happy Mothers’ Day!

Parenting Without Pity is a storytelling project and podcast series where disabled parents draw from our own experience of disability as children to help non-disabled parents be better allies for their disabled children.

We are honored to be part of this project. Listen to our episode here about our experiences growing up with low vision. Then, when you are finished check out the growing catalog of stories they have published!

  1. Great podcast, I really enjoyed that! You two are amazing intelligent women that are doing a lot with your young lives. I believe this could be very helpful to parents of children with disabilities, from all of the things you have learned along the way. So kudos for you sharing your experiences and knowledge.
I also loved how you gave your folks credit for doing what they could with what they knew at the time when you were kids rather than shaming them for what they did not do. It’s such a different world now with the internet and programs/help in schools and elsewhere for children with disabilities than when you were growing up, so it was good that you pointed that out.

  2. I really enjoy reading your blog and in this case listening to you two. Your stories of feeling more confident and empowered made me smile. I’m proud of you both and appreciate the ways you’re using your experiences to advocate for others.
Can’t wait to hang out soon, Jenelle!
